As far as Badiou is concerned, ontology is the study of the features shared by any order of presentation whatsoever, which amounts to the same thing as saying that it studies the conversion of what there is of pure being into something consistent and structured – an order of multiple-ones, rather than an order (or lack thereof – chaos) of the pure multiple.
